Why the support windows keep getting longer

MongoDB Server versions were historically supported for 30 months from release, but MongoDB extended that window twice: 7.0 now gets 4 years of support and 8.0 (and every version after it) gets 5 years — both retroactive changes MongoDB made to reduce how often production deployments are forced to upgrade.

MongoDB Atlas (the managed cloud service) runs its own, shorter "Auto Upgrade" schedule alongside the standard Major Release track — Atlas can retire a version months or years before the self-managed MongoDB Server (Enterprise Advanced / Community Edition) EOL date shown here.
