Many countries require a passport to stay valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates — check whether yours clears that bar.
The 6-month rule isn't universal law — it's a widely adopted convention among many countries (especially across the Schengen area, much of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East) intended to guard against travelers overstaying with a passport that could expire while they're still abroad, or being unable to get a return visa processed in time. Not every country enforces it, and some use a shorter window (commonly 3 months) or none at all — this checker uses the common 6-month convention as a general planning guide.
Airlines and immigration authorities make the actual, final call — some airlines will deny boarding based on their own reading of a destination's rules even if you believe you're compliant. Always verify your specific destination's exact current passport-validity requirement directly with that country's embassy or official travel advisory before booking, especially since some countries recently switched to a "valid for length of stay only" policy that dropped the 6-month requirement entirely.
