Why this only covers LTS releases

Since MySQL 8.4, Oracle splits releases into two tracks: Innovation releases, which ship quarterly and are each supported for only about a year before being superseded by the next one, and LTS (long-term support) releases, which ship roughly every two years and get a much longer support window split into "Premier" support followed by "Extended" support. Almost nobody should be running an old Innovation release in production, so this tracker only lists the LTS line — 8.0, 8.4, and 9.7 — plus the two support-tier dates for each.

Premier vs. Extended support

During Premier support, Oracle ships regular bug fixes, security patches, and is generally the phase most self-hosted deployments should stay within. Extended support still includes critical security fixes but drops general bug fixes, and typically requires an Oracle support contract to actually receive — treat the Extended End date less as "still fully supported" and more as "the point of no return" for staying on that version.
