Work & Payroll
Enter an hourly rate and hours worked in a week to see regular pay, overtime pay, and the total — using the standard US federal 40-hour rule.
Under the US Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), non-exempt employees are entitled to overtime pay for any hours worked beyond 40 in a single workweek, at a rate of at least 1.5 times their regular hourly rate. This calculator applies that standard weekly threshold — it doesn't account for daily overtime rules some states apply on top of it.
A handful of states — California most notably — also require overtime for any hours worked beyond 8 in a single day, regardless of the weekly total, plus double-time thresholds after 12 hours in a day or on a seventh consecutive workday. If you're in one of those states, this tool's weekly-only calculation will understate what's actually owed; check your state labor department for the exact daily rules.
