Countdown
A live countdown to the US federal tax filing deadline — normally April 15, but shifted when that date falls on a weekend or a Washington DC holiday.
When April 15 falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the deadline moves to the next Monday. It can shift further still if that Monday happens to be Emancipation Day, a Washington DC holiday (observed April 16, or the 15th if the 16th is a weekend) — a quirk of tax law that has pushed Tax Day to April 17 or 18 in several past years. This tool applies both rules to calculate the actual current-year deadline rather than assuming a fixed date.
This is the individual federal filing deadline specifically — state deadlines, extensions, and quarterly estimated payment dates all follow their own separate rules.
