7 hours and 30 minutes is 7.5 decimal hours, not 7.30 — a common manual-entry mistake, since minutes don't convert to decimal by simply moving the colon. Payroll and invoicing systems need the true decimal figure (minutes ÷ 60) to calculate pay correctly; this tool handles that conversion automatically alongside the raw HH:MM total.
If your clock-out time is earlier in the 24-hour clock than your clock-in time (an overnight shift), this tool assumes the shift crossed midnight and calculates accordingly, rather than returning a negative or nonsensical result.
